DESCRIPTION:As part of Central Fife Doors Open Day\, we’ll be welcoming visitors to our plot at the Ravenscraig Walled Garden community allotments. \nHave a tour of our (very) wee plot and see our community composting setup\, and the seed crops we’ve been growing (what’s left of them). We’ll have locally saved seeds to share\, homemade fertiliser to give away\, snacks made from produce we’ve grown\, infusions made from whatever leaves you fancy in the area\, and some climate-friendly gardening demo activities like soil blocking and seed processing for anyone who wants to get hands-on. \nFind us by entering the walled garden through the big gate\, following the road along and turning left when it forks\, then right at the end and you’ll see our wee shed. Drop by any time!

DESCRIPTION:Let’s talk seeds! Come along for a relaxed\, social event to find out more about the Fife Seed Library. We’ll talk about: \n\nwhy seed saving is important for food security\,\nwhy seed saving is good for your garden\,\nhow to save different kinds of seeds from flowers\, fruit and veg\,\nhow to recognise wildflowers in your area and harvest their seed to spread\,\nwhat even is a seed and how does it work?!\n\nWe’ll bring along some recently harvested local seeds so you can get hands on with sorting from the chaff and learning what different kinds of seeds are like. \nWe’d love to hear from you – what wildflowers are growing in your area\, and what would you like to see more of? What’s going on in your local community garden? Have you saved seeds and what has been the result? If you have any seeds you’ve saved this year that you’d like to share with the Seed Library Cabinet\, please bring those along too! \nHomemade snacks and hot drinks provided! \nAccess information: There are some small steps into the church hall and a couple of steps up to the Hall once inside. Parking is available in the bus turning circle area just down from the church in Main Street or on Oakley Road. There are toilets on site. \nThis event is organised in partnership with Saline and Steeland Environmental Group and the Drying Green community garden.

SUMMARY:Wildflower planting with NHS Fife
DESCRIPTION:Join us in transforming an open space in the heart of Kirkcaldy. \nWe’re turning grass into wildflower beds in partnership with NHS Fife\, at the School of Health Sciences near Kirkcaldy train station. We need your help! What better way to kick off Climate Week? All welcome\, no experience needed. Come along prepared to: \n\nMove turf in wheelbarrows\nShovel compost\nMix seeds into sand\nScatter the seed mix\nNet the flower beds\n\nWe’ll be starting at 1pm on Sunday and 10:30 on Monday\, going into 5pm or we’ve finished! Come for a couple of hours or a full day\, at whatever time works for you. Please bring: \n\nA bottle of water to drink\nA packed lunch and snacks\nSuitable shoes and a raincoat\nEnergy for physical work!\n\nAnd if you have them (but don’t worry if you don’t! We’ll have spares): \n\nGardening gloves\nA garden spade or fork\nA wheelbarrow\nA folding chair if you’ll want to sit down during your break\n\nYou’ll be instrumental in creating a beautiful space\, visible from the train and bus routes in the middle of town. Wildflower meadows improve wellbeing of visitors to the site and passers-by\, as well as creating critical habitat for pollinators and other creatures in urban areas. Once sown\, the wildflower beds will blossom in spring\, and continue to develop over the summer and into coming years. DESCRIPTION:Learn how to identify wildflowers in the seeding stage\, how to harvest\, process and store different types of seeds for re-sowing\, and everything you need to know to care for a wildflower meadow. \nJoin us in the morning or afternoon (or both!) at the StAndEN EcoHub! \nVibes du jour: \n\nSpend some relaxing time in the garden\, collecting seeds and observing nature.\nEnjoy a scything demonstration and learn how to sensitively care for a wildflower patch or meadow.\nAccess to flower ID books and local expertise.\nA chance to sit and chat\, while processing and sorting seeds.\nAsk us questions about your own green space\, and get advice on how to start your own wildflower meadow.\nTake some seeds home to start sowing immediately!\n\nTimetable (approximate – very flexible\, depending on participants’ interests\, and the weather!): \n\n10:30: arrive\, have a cup of tea\, meet the Seed Library\n11:00: garden walk and seed collection\n12:00: scything demo and Q&A\n13:00: break for lunch!
