The Fife Seed Library is an idea and a movement… and it’s also a nomadic roaming storage cabinet!
The Seed Library cabinet needs foster homes
(Picture below shows a work-in-progress. To be updated when the painting of the cabinet is complete!)
The Seed Library cabinet is travelling Fife, pausing in community spaces two to three months. This makes it accessible to more people in different areas, and provides opportunities for seed-related events and activities all over Fife.
We’re looking for hosts which:
- are open to the public at least 3 days per week;
- are accessible to people with limited mobility and wheelchair users
- can provide a dry, cool space, not next to strong heat sources or in direct sunlight;
- are staffed by someone who can facilitate checking seeds in and out (instructions and training provided, no expertise needed!)
And ideal spaces:
- centre environmental sustainability in their practices or goals;
- share our other values (seed and food sovereignty, social justice, community solidarity);
- are affiliated with a green/growing space.

Very soon the cabinet will have wheels for ease of movement. In the meantime however, see the image below for how much fun it is to move around…

The Seed Library cabinet is an exciting concept and a beautiful object, around which you could organise a plant swap, a film screening, or any earth-loving event that suits your community!
We are keen to support seed swaps and provide practical workshops that are relevant to your local community wherever the cabinet is currently residing.
